Reviving Traditional Styles of Weaving

I

t’s our goal to revive the traditional way of doing things including hand weaving fabrics. In Nepal, these hand weavers still exist and weave select fabric within the country. As many people move towards machines that produce higher yields of fabric at a cheaper cost, the specialized craft of hand weaving has lost demand. We hope to not only provide jobs for the existing traditional weavers, but to create a demand for handwoven fabrics.

Handwoven fabrics offers multiple benefits. They have a lower carbon footprint, reduce pollution, use minimal energy, and create jobs.

The beauty of handwoven fabric is distinct because it is not perfectly uniform which gives it dimension that machine woven fabric lacks. Because of this, each item in our collection is completely unique.

We try to use hand weaving whenever possible but some fabrics are difficult to hand weave and our artisans prefer not to do them. These fabrics are sent to be partially handwoven which runs on a basic machine. This machine still requires humans to run it because it is not computerized, however it is not as labor intensive as traditional hand weaving.

We currently use two types of weaving - handwoven and partially handwoven.

Our handwoven fabrics are 100% handwoven by skilled artisans who weave the fabric on a loom. The loom is not automated in any way and cannot run without a human manually moving the pieces back and forth. Several of our fabrics are 100% handwoven.
